Accsys advances its sustainability strategy with pilot programme to reclaim offcuts of FSC\u00ae<\/sup> certified Accoya\u00ae<\/sup> wood to create FSC Recycled\u00ae<\/sup> material for Tricoya\u00ae<\/sup> wood chips.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Cradle to Cradle Certified\u2122 Gold status, our Accoya <\/a>wood is a building material with leading circular economy credentials \u2013 but what happens to the offcuts when it is manufactured into different shapes, styles and end products by our customers?\u00a0 While it can be treated at the end of its life just like other woods, Accsys has started a more direct and value-enhancing reuse and upcycling programme: reclaiming the offcuts to process into Tricoya<\/a>\u00ae<\/sup> wood chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As detailed in our recently-published Sustainability Report<\/a>, we are committed to maximising the environmental benefits our products provide to the world. Our premium solid wood product, Accoya, starts as FSC<\/a>\u00ae<\/sup> wood sourced from sustainable, well-managed forests.\u00a0 We enhance the wood\u2019s natural properties to create a non-toxic, highly stable and very durable product, storing carbon safely in a useful product for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With certified\nFSC\u00ae<\/sup> Recycled status, we have started a programme to take back\nAccoya wood trimmings from some of our trusted manufacturing partners,\nreprocessing it into Tricoya chips that are then used to make Tricoya\npanels.  The Accoya offcuts are already\nacetylated, making it a highly efficient process to create Tricoya chips\ndirectly from them \u2013 and minimising waste. There can be no compromise on\nquality though, and much effort and care is taken to ensure the purity of the\nsupply of offcuts with inspection before reuse. This means carefully managing\nthe programme, its deployment and potential expansion in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tricoya MDF\npanels share many of Accoya\u2019s benefits: durable, stable and suitable for use\neven in wet environments, they retain the ease of use of traditional wood\npanels but can be used instead of many less sustainable materials such as\naluminium, plastic or concrete \u2013 even outdoors in the rain, or in wet or humid\nindoor settings.  This enables and\nencourages new levels of creativity and sustainability for our built\nenvironments.\n\nAlthough our\noffcut reclamation and reuse programme is still in its early stages, our goal\nis to develop it further over time and open it up to more and more of our\ncustomers \u2013 and potentially their customers too.  This not only keeps the carbon locked into\nour materials for longer, but also enhances value, reduces waste, and further embeds\nour sustainable and circular economy philosophy.  \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
