Visible along the coastline from Oostende to Westende, this landmark\nproject constructed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furnibo.be\/nl\">Furnibo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/democogroup.com\/en\/articleincontext\/14\/11105\">Democo<\/a> spans 39,200m\u00b2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accoya glue laminated beams were used for the\nfa\u00e7ade of the casino. When deciding the material for the fa\u00e7ade, the designers\nwanted a material that would stand the test of time while being durable and resistant\nto harsh environments. Given the coastal location, Accoya was the ideal\nmaterial for this demanding project. Accoya is durability class 1, tried and\ntested not to shrink and swell as much as other wood species and also comes\nwith a 50-year above ground warranty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main contractor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hess-timber.com\/en\/\">HESS\nTIMBER<\/a>, specialist in timber engineering, known for its work\non Google&#8217;s HQ in King&#8217;s Cross, London played a pivotal role in this project.\nThe SILT casino\u2019s impressive structure, measuring 42 metres by 33 metres with a\nheight of 25 metres, is made from 115m\u00b3 of glue laminated\nAccoya. The use of wood and natural materials were instrumental to the project,\nwith manufacturer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hasslacher.com\/\">Hasslacher Holzbauteile<\/a>\nand installer, <a href=\"https:\/\/arwobouw.be\/\">Arwo Bouw<\/a> ensuring the\nfactory made components fitted together quickly on site to form the modern\nfa\u00e7ade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nterms of planning and coordination, it was a challenging project, according to\nHESS TIMBER: &#8220;The installation was challenging because the other works on\nthe casino were already well advanced. Accessibility and free workspace were\nlimited, and completed works had to be protected. The load-bearing capacity of\nthe balconies and allowed free zones was also limited, meaning that the use of\nheavy machinery in the immediate vicinity of the building was not an option.\nHowever, the relatively low weight of the components was an advantage.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John\nAlexander, Group Commercial Director, Accsys, explained, \u201cAccoya was specified\nfor this project due to its remarkable durability and stability. With the\nhighly anticipated Google HQ Accoya fa\u00e7ade demonstrating its longevity in a\npolluted urban setting, the SILT building\u2019s Accoya fa\u00e7ade will showcase its\nexceptional resistance in a coastal environment. This is proven in some of the\nharshest conditions globally, including oyster farms in the ocean around\nAustralia.
