A major residential renovation in Amsterdam has selected Accoya wood as the ideal material for over 430 new windows, a decision driven by the value it provides over its lifespan, combining proven durability, thermal efficiency, and sustainability.
In collaboration with joinery specialist Van den Oudenrijn B.V., part of the TimmerSelekt Group, the project involves the replacement of 433 windows across 179 apartments and 5 commercial units in a residential complex on Amsterdam’s east side. Work began shortly after summer 2024 and will be finalised later this month.
Anton van den Oudenrijn, Project Manager at Van den Oudenrijn B.V., explains, “Quality has been our hallmark since 1922 – and this project is no exception. Working with the Owners’ Association, we focused on improving the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability.
While Accoya is known for its stability, durability, and thermal properties, it was ultimately selected for its long term value. Its exceptional lifespan, resistance to rot and warping, and 15-year coating warranty translate to significantly reduced upkeep. Although the upfront cost is higher than other timber species, the lasting performance and aesthetics make it a smart investment.”
To meet the demands of this large-scale retrofit, more than 10 kilometres of Accoya wood were used (approximately 10,070–10,740 linear metres), manufactured into durable, triple-glazed windows. The timber was supplied by Boogaerdt Hout, an official Accoya distributor, whose logistical expertise ensured smooth and timely delivery.
In total, the project encompassed:
- 4,150m² of window frames
- More than 10 km of Accoya wood (approx. 10,070–10,740 linear metres)
- 2,314m² of triple glazing
- 442 tilt-and-turn windows
This project showcases the scalability and sustainability of Accoya wood in large urban retrofit applications, reinforcing its position as a preferred material for forward-thinking joiners and developers alike.
