Energy and Climate Change
At Accsys, we are committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations and amplifying the positive impact our products have on the planet. We publish Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions annually, using this data to inform our sustainability strategy and engage stakeholders meaningfully.
In FY26, we announced our energy and climate targets, outlining the actions we will be taking towards emissions reduction, including our ambition to Net Zero by 2050. Our climate strategy integrates operational efficiency, renewable energy sourcing, and continuous improvement in emissions monitoring.

In FY27, we have introduced a Sustainability Hero Award, recognising an individual or team for their contribution to the emissions reductions, progress on carbon targets, resource use and efficiency, or other contribution to Accsys’ ESG strategy.
Climate risk management
We monitor climate risks and opportunities and report on these through our TCFD (Taskforce on Climate Related Disclosures) Report, which includes our Climate Scenario Analysis covering current and emerging physical risks (acute or chronic) and transition risks (categorised as technology, policy and legal, market, or reputational risk) across our own operations and upstream and downstream value chain.
We recognise that climate change can affect business performance and therefore integrate climate considerations into strategic planning, site development, capital expenditure planning, and long-term investment priorities.
We regularly monitor industry trends, climate-related legislation, and growth opportunities, including the increasing demand for sustainable building materials, , and factor this into financial and strategic planning and decision-making.
Our Sustainability Plan, Accsys Cares, is our strategic approach to managing climate-related risks and opportunities and is closely linked to the safe and sustainable pillar of our corporate FOCUS strategy. Our annual greenhouse gas emissions and ESG metrics measure our progress and keep us accountable.
Beauty, quality and performance with minimal environmental impact
Responsible Sourcing
As a supplier of wood materials, Accsys takes responsibility for ensuring that our raw materials are sourced responsibly protecting biodiversity and reducing environmental impact. We are committed to maintaining that 100% of wood used to manufacture our products is sourced from certified sustainable wood sources (through FSC® (C012330), PEFC/16-37-2311, or equivalent) and will only work with suppliers that can meet these standards. Through this, Accsys is able to reduce our impact through FSC’s work to reduce land use change and resource exploitation, and ensure high human rights standards.
Additionally, carbon footprint remains an important factor in our acetyls procurement, and we will continue to engage with our suppliers on the topic of decarbonisation to support our efforts towards net zero.
Biodiversity
Through our work on responsible sourcing, Accsys is able to maintain our target to support no net deforestation and continue to protect biodiversity into 2026 and thereafter. Continued work to source FSC® certified wood (or equivalent) supports our efforts to reduce our impact on nature, working with responsible suppliers who protect biodiversity and meet high standards for forest conservation.
We have also conducted a Biodiversity Risk Assessment, using the WWF Biodiversity Risk Filter and will review this every three years.
In the summer of 2026, London employees supported ecological restoration across Shoreditch Park, volunteering to litter pick and distribute mulch around trees across the park. This supported the health of existing trees, enhancing soil quality, tree growth, and contributed to the maintenance and regeneration of the local ecosystem.
Waste, Water & Packaging
We are committed to minimising waste, maximising recycling, and diverting materials from landfill and regularly review our waste operations to identify reduction opportunities. A key part of our R&D and innovation processes explore opportunities to advance our product value proposition, minimise waste and optimise our already minimal use of packaging. Where possible, Accsys aims to minimise the use of packaging. In December 2023 we switched our packaging for Accoya Color to be a fully repulpable.
Any hazardous materials are disposed of in full compliance with local environmental regulations and audit requirements.
While we do not operate in water stressed regions, careful use of water is a key consideration. We regularly monitor our use to identify opportunities to reduce consumption and keep water in use for longer. Most of our water use in production is used for cooling, where surface water goes through a closed-loop system and is returned to the river without being subject to contamination. Additionally, at our site in Barry, rain water is harvested for use in the production process.

Sustainable and Quality Products
Through the manufacture of Accoya, Accsys is able to promote the use of sustainable resources that support the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy. Our acetylated wood products offer an alternative, sustainable material without compromising on performance.
Accoya’s sustainability credentials are independently verified, through the FSC® certification of 100% of our timber, and through Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope Gold, which it has held for over 15 years. This is supported by quantified sustainability targets, as well as our FOCUS strategy, which outlines our plan to maximise capacity and profitability, with a target for 12% adjusted EBITDA margin by the end of FY27. We aim to continuously improve our processes to maintain best in-class product certifications. We will also add new labels as appropriate to ensure that our products meet evolving sustainability standards and customer expectations across global markets. As we expand our production capacity, we are well positioned to meet the rising global demand for sustainable building materials.
We also continue to make investments to increase our sustainable product offering. In FY26, €1.2 million was dedicated to investment in research and development, including a focus on exploring new wood species, working with partners on fire protection solutions and collaborating with coating partners to enhance durability and extend product life. In FY26, 57% of Accsys’ electricity consumption came from renewable sources (inclusive of market-based instruments). By the end of FY27 our target is to increase the use of green electricity to 100%, achieved through a combination of grid and market-based instruments, helping to ensure that our products are manufactured in a sustainable way.
The Group maintains structured Sales, Marketing and Product Quality functions which focus on supporting and growing our sales and customer demand, while ensuring the quality of our products. Mandatory Accsys Project Management (APM) training ensures that product development and R&D teams are educated on sustainable design principles, implementing these in our product development (Global Technology Centre (GTC)) project checklists.
We are committed to working to the highest quality standards. Our Arnhem site proudly holds ISO-9001 Certificate reflecting our dedication to delivering excellence in every product and process. This internationally recognised benchmark confirms that our systems are built for consistency, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Through these activities, Accsys strengthens our ability to deliver sustainable and high-quality products, helping to expand revenues from sustainable products that help to replace carbon-intensive and less resource-efficient materials.
Ecolabels
Accoya® wood is Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope – V5 – Gold. As part of that certification, our supply chain, production processes and procedures have been examined and scored on categories including: Material Health , Product Circularity, Clean Air & Climate Protection, Water & Soil Stewardship and Social Fairness (Gold).
Accsys is committed to ensuring all its wood products are free of hazardous substances and non-toxic. Accoya has received an ILFI DECLARE label and is Red List Free and we also have an independently verified REACH exempt statement,. Carbon Storage
Our products combine the natural carbon storage benefits of wood with exceptional durability, extending the life of fast-growing softwood Radiata Pine and reducing maintenance, resource use, and associated lifecycle. Through Accoya® wood’s 50 year warranty, we support long-term carbon sequestration. At end of life, it can be re-used or repurposed due to its non-toxic nature, and turned into biomass briquettes for a renewable energy source, or repurposed for Tricoya production
Environmental Product Declaration
We are committed to maintaining an updated Environmental Product Declaration (EPD),providing transparency on the environmental impact across the entire product lifecycle. We continue to focus on making our products as sustainable as possible, using resource-efficient manufacturing processes and increasing the use of renewable energy, to further meet the growing demand for low-carbon products.
