The demand for high performance and sustainable Accoya wood continues to grow, with sales volumes for Accsys’ FY23 (Apr-Mar) up 6% over the previous year.
Accsys sold 63,344m3 of Accoya in FY23 as customers sought solutions for high performance, sustainable and durable building materials. Accsys also reported record Accoya production in the fourth quarter of FY23 following the successful increase in capacity at its Arnhem production facilities.
The amount of Accoya sold still represents less than 3% of the estimated 2.6 million m3 total potential target market estimation for Accoya and Tricoya.
John Alexander, Group Sales Director commented: “Over the last year we’ve seen continued strong demand for Accoya. The trends for outdoor living, sustainable construction and natural design are all driving factors. Accoya is renowned for its exceptional quality, durability, and sustainability, making it an ideal choice for various applications. To delight our customers and meet the huge demand for Accoya, we’ve worked hard to increase our production volumes – with record levels in Q3 and Q4 – and product availability. We’re now thrilled to offer greater availability, and be working on building demand and enabling more projects globally to come to life with Accoya.”
Accoya has been assessed to have a service life of up to 90 years and offers a 50 year above ground and 25 year in-ground or freshwater warranty. Accsys’ proprietary acetylation process makes the wood more dimensionally stable and extremely durable. It is one of very few building materials to be Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Gold level, with a Platinum rating for Material Health, confirming that no harmful or toxic additives or chemicals are present to leach out into the environment.
Accoya is commonly used for windows, doors, decking and cladding, where the combination of performance and sustainability benefits compete favourably against hardwoods, plastics, metals and concrete.
