In the summer of 2021 the entire Accsys family of colleagues helped to choose our new charity partners for the company. To reflect the company’s purpose, values and operating locations and to have an impact on the people, society and world around them, Accsys chose to support one UK-based charity, one located in the Netherlands, and one with a truly global remit and impact. With strong engagement from across all areas of the business, Accsys is now proud to support Mind, Trees for All, and the Coalition for Rainforest Nations.
Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) operates at a global level with 50+ rainforest nations to help preserve and protect one of the planet’s most valuable natural living resources. Accsys’ Accoya® and Tricoya® products, made from fast-growing certified sustainable wood, are frequently chosen as high performance alternatives to desirable but often unsustainable tropical woods, with quality and characteristics that match or exceed those of the slow-growing natural resource that CfRN’s work helps to protect.
Trees for All is based in the Netherlands, and has planted over 6.1 million trees and shrubs in the country and abroad to grow natural forestry, create healthy green spaces, and help tackle climate impacts. The Accoya® production facility is an established part of the Dutch city of Arnhem, with many examples of its products found all over the city and country.
Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, and believes that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone: they are there for anybody experiencing a mental health problem. Whether they are stressed, depressed or in crisis, Mind is there in their community, on the end of the phone, or online to listen, offer support and advice, and fight their corner. It is well-noted that bringing nature into everyday life can improve levels of physical and mental health, and colleagues throughout Accsys are delighted to support all aspects of a healthier, more sustainable life for people through this partnership with Mind. Colleagues at the Tricoya UK site in Hull recently held their annual ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ (with much care given to COVID safety protocols), raising and donating an additional £1,200 for charity.
“Changing wood to change the world” is the Accsys purpose, delivered through creating high performance, highly sustainable wood products that lower embodied carbon costs for our built environment, and even expand the potential carbon sink potential of our buildings and cities.
It is not just through a more sustainable material though that the organisation is committed to making a positive impact: implementing a new Society and Communities strategy, with established and employee-picked charity partners and internal ambassadors, is another important element of the role the Accsys plays in having a positive impact on the world.
Since 2020, Accsys has been further refining, developing and delivering on its approach to Environmental, Social and Governance (‘ESG’) through many channels: for example reducing emissions intensity of production, reconfirming the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Gold status for its flagship Accoya® product, and launching new company-wide initiatives such as a wellbeing Walking Challenge, dedicated Safety Day, and new Green Champions Network for colleagues. Through both its strategy and its acclaimed eco-friendly products, Accsys continues to drive progress towards a more sustainable future for the world.
